Khmer Unicode

សូមស្វាគមន៍ការមកដល់គេហទំព័ររបស់យើងខ្ញុំ!

Can you see above sentence in Khmer letter?

If not, you must see them as a long line of question marks ????????????????? or maybe a line of boxes, which means your computer doesn't have Khmer Unicode installed!!!

Windows Vista has built-in Khmer Unicode font "Daun Penh."

But if your operating system is Windows XP or other versions of Windows, or if you want to use Khmer Unicode which has keyboard layout similar to Limon fonts, please download it here:

Download: Khmer Unicode 1.2.5

Note: In Windows Vista, the default Khmer Unicode font appears very small in Internet Explorer, Opera, and Google Chrome because the default font for Khmer Unicode is Daun Penh, which is smaller than Khmer OS fonts. However, I don't see this problem in Firefox browser. The font appears big enough in Firefox

Khmer Dictionary

The Buddhist Institute has developed an electronic dictionary based on Chuon Nath's Khmer dictionary, fifth edition, published in 1967.

This program works in Windows XP and Vista. Khmer Unicode and DotNet Framework are required to run this program (both are included in the rar file below).

You can grab a free copy here: http://www.budinst.gov.kh/files/software/The_Khmer_Dictionary_of_the_Buddhist_Institute_Pack.rar

To extract the file, use WinRar: http://rarlab.com/rar/wrar380.exe

Then follow the instruction in the "Read me.pdf" file in the rar archive.

Learning Khmer

For some foreigners, Khmer, the language of Cambodian people, is one of the most difficult languages. It is true that for non-native speakers, every foreign language can be difficult, so it's normal to feel this way towards Khmer language, and don't let this feeling obstruct your curiosity.

Don't be surprised when seeing foreigners, especially the Westerners, who can speak perfect Khmer with Khmer accent. There are some who can even sing very well in Khmer. Pretty amazing huh?

In fact it's not that special. With hard work and practice, you will be able to achieve your goal. Your effort is the most powerful weapon!
